Maggie Abrams and Jennifer Hickman have been working together as jewelers for over 20 years.
Maggie is a natural born rockhound with a BS in Education from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. She moved to Colorado Springs in 1977 originally planning to teach but ending up as the bookkeeper for a local rock shop.
In her spare time while at work, Maggie taught herself metalsmithing and lapidary on equipment in the back of the shop. In 1984, she opened Abrams Jewelry Design, a small design, repair and retail store in Old Colorado City, on the west side of Colorado Springs.
Jennifer, who hails from a family of artists, has a BA in Economics from the Colorado College in Colorado Springs. After graduation, she met Maggie through soccer and, while working for the Better Business Bureau, sold her a BBB membership. Shortly thereafter, Maggie moved into a much larger retail and workspace and, needing help, took Jennifer on as an apprentice. Needless to say, it worked out and Jennifer stayed on to become Maggie's business and life partner!
After 17 years of retail in Old Colorado City, Maggie and Jennifer wanted to spend more time creating and focusing on their custom jewelry, and more time with their then 5 year old son, Milo. They closed the retail store in December of 2001 and began working in a private studio. Business continues to thrive and be successful almost 10 years later, and they still very much enjoy working together to create incredible, one-of-a-kind, wearable metal and stone art.
Maggie and Jennifer are happy to present their gallery quality pieces at local Colorado art and craft shows, local businesses, as well as occasionally online. You are invited to send inquiries or comments to them at AbramsJewelry@aol.com.
